We’re pleased to welcome Rick Eggerth, from the Whatcom Environmental Council (WEC), and Kirsten McDade from RE Sources to our neighborhood meeting on September 23rd.

WEC is advocating for temporarily landfilling Post Point sewage solids as a cleaner interim alternative to continued incineration, which produces ongoing air emissions, while pushing the City to move much faster toward newer treatment technologies instead of waiting until around 2040 or later.

WEC has also challenged Bellingham’s Comprehensive Plan, arguing that it does not adequately meet state requirements to reduce per-capita vehicle miles traveled. Reducing VMT matters because it can lower transportation emissions, traffic, and the environmental impacts of growth while encouraging more efficient, walkable communities.

Join us Sept. 23 to hear directly from WEC about these efforts and what they mean for Bellingham’s future.
